Nessuno sa spiegare che cosa è successo, come o perché, semplicemente un attimo prima gli adulti c’erano e quello dopo non c’erano più. Nessuno sa spiegare che cosa sia la forza impenetrabile che impedisce a chiunque di lasciare la città. I telefoni non funzionano e chiedere aiuto (ma a chi, poi?) è impossibile. Abbandonati a se stessi, i ragazzi, tutti al di sotto dei quindici anni, si riuniscono in bande, litigano, eleggono capi.

Occorre ricostruire un ordine, ma non è facile in un mondo che non è più quello che conoscevano. E quando alcuni di loro si accorgono di avere strani, pericolosi poteri, si rendono ben presto conto che la cosa più difficile sarà difendersi da loro stessi.

No one can explain what happened, how or why, just a moment before the adults were there and the one after they were no longer there. No one can explain what the impenetrable force is that prevents anyone from leaving the city. The phones do not work and ask for help (but who, then?) is impossible. Left to themselves, the boys, all under the age of fifteen, gather in gangs, fight, elect chiefs.

We need to rebuild an order, but it is not easy in a world that is no longer what they knew. And when some of them realize that they have strange, dangerous powers, they soon realise that the hardest thing will be to defend themselves.
